I was quite impressed by his portrayal of Nobutada in "The Last Samurai". Though he is Japanese, he was virtually unknown here until this movie came out.

I hope to see more wonderful Asian actors and actresses in the Hollywood movies as well.

All I can say is WOW! It is such a wicked movie, definately a hit!
I saw it on Friday with my class as a treat from our Japanese teacher, we had triple Japanese that day so we decided to go see the film.
Shin Koyamada is absolutly stunning in the film! I hope he'll be in more block-buster movies in the future!

damn, Shin's gorgeous!!! we were all drooling during the movie... my sisters and i were like "it's the asian legolas!!! only without those ridiculous blond tresses.." :P there ain't a thing sexier than a great swordsman (samurai in this case) / archer .. ;)
i really do hope to see him more often in other new movies, and asians in particular as well.. i've been a big fan of Japanese culture for quite a few years now, for years i've been trying to start with japanese lessons.. i only hope this year i can finally start!! as soon as i can muster a few good phrases, i'll be hoping to at least chat with Japanese ppl!

It is actually "shin or makoto" meaning "truth, fact, reality...etc."

In Japanese, Shin's name is in Katakana, but I guess that is his stage name.
His real name could be in Kanji(Chinese character) and using that letter on the site.

Hey everyone, I know I'm late, but I just saw The Last Samurai today. It is better than I had expected. The cinematography was beautiful, and the actors all brought depth to their roles. Shin's character really touched me, especially in the scene where he dies.

haha...I noticed that he was cute from the beginning, but I didn't pay any special notice to him at first. I got interested in the scene when he was kneeling on the streets, getting insulted by the policemen...and then Tom Cruise says: Yamero. At that point, Shin looked so boyish, and the look on his face was very expressive. He's a good actor. And then, when he was shooting those arrows while Katsumoto made his escape, I thought: whoa...he's like a Japanese version of Legolas! And then the fangirl part of me kicked it and did the rest ^^;;

Well, I just needed to get that out. ^^ So I wanted to leave a comment on this blog. It's cool to see so many fans leaving messages here.

At first i didnt intend to but after i seen the movie i went to the website. thats where i read a little bio about him and i got inspired. i really want to learn more martial arts. ive been taking Tae Kwon Do and im pretty good but i dont feel like im learning that much in the class. i want to go somewhere where i can get better training.

(im sure some of you have already received letters from him and that this isnt a big surprise, but for me this is really exciting. i even got his autograph and a picture) It was awesome!:D. He told me that I should work for my martial art goals and stuff like time will not wait for you. He seems very wise and what he says is very true. ...well im only fourteen so i guess i have some time, but i really want to have the opportunity to do things right away. I am actually going to Japan by myself this summer to stay with some family and friends. I haven't been there since 1990 when i was only eight months old. haha Thank you for the link for "Kobujutus". And so, after seeing him, he looked kinda cute, but I told my self (or I forced myself) to NOT tell me that he is pretty cute. Wushu and karate/taekwondo are supposed to be in my top list but they're so expensive here in private school. So I'm joining uni club and taking up Kenjutsu at other uni. It's cool! Hope to master it well. The only thing is that there doesn't seem to have any ranking. It's really nice to be in OZ... so many martial arts around. Kendo, aikido, jijitsu, kenjutsu, ninjatsu, etc etc that I'd never heard of back home. Till then, take care!

Yes... Kenjutsu is something like in the movie "The Last Samurai". I arrived in Melbourne, Australia early last year. So had been here only for more than 1 yr now. Still another year to go till I graduate. Hope to finish successfully this Nov. That's why I'm very happy to find so many martial arts here in Melb.

You were pretty close with translating what i said. Actually i am full Japanese but i live in Canada and can't speak it that well growing up here. My mom always talks to me and my sisters in Japanese but we answer back in English. I dont go to a Japanese school but i wish i did. Our town is very small so theres not much available...well thats not exactly what is says if you translate it but you the idea.^^

hi all, i know i'm a bit late on this, just bought the movie yesterday at walmart. man!!!! this was a TIGHT movie. shin caught my attention also, he is THE ASIAN LEGOLAS. definitely got the charisma and the looks. i'm a dude myself, an he does give the asian guys a jump start in being cool and sexy, instead of being kung fu huey and all... hehe. yeap, hope to see more of his movie and the other dude that plays the head samuri too.

I do not know Shin Koyamada. I know who he is, and I know his work, I know what I've read in his biography, and I know that he smiles a lot and does not give up. Last time my sister Jasmine was talking about how she never "had any hope" until she saw Shin. She is so dramatic. She wants to be an actor, but she absolutely fell head over heels for him. Its not really a problem when she does that stuff on the net, but it is a problem when she uses my e-mail address. Gosh. N-E-Way. My sight of Shin is more like a "silent adoration". He is very impressive and way cool. As for the person who hopes he doesn't make it big so you can have him all to yourself. Sorry friend. It aint happening - he is obviously going places and I'm glad for him! Besides - what girl in her right mind doesn't notice a Fine Man like that? (lets not get technical either).

I have seen The last Samurai so many times, and every time I see I am overwhelmed by the talent of these Japanese actors and their beauty. Thanks to other fans else my website will have nothing to display. THE WORLD MARTIAL ARTS MASTERS EXPO Jan 14th... Please visit my website cause I can't post all details here. Glad to hear from you, and it's great you are coming to Japan as an exchange student!

Aomori is wonderful (I've been there only once...), beautiful and lots of snow as you know.
And apples are just one of the local item they are famous for. Seafood is great there, so don't eat too much (^^).
